Como usar “except” e “except for”
• Incorreto: Except you, I like everyone.
• Correto: Except for you, I like everyone.
• Incorreto: Except this mistake, you did very well.
• Correto: Except for this mistake, you did very well.
Except pode ser usado sem o for depois de palavras como all, every, no, everything, anybody, nowhere, whole etc.
Em outros casos, normalmente usamos except for.
• He cleaned all the rooms except the bedroom.
Ou
• Nobody was invited except Peter and Alice.
Ou
• I like everyone except / except for you.
• They were all tired except / except for John.
• That was a good essay, except for a few spelling mistakes. (That was a good essay, except a few spelling mistakes. - NÃO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
