Why your English feels stuck

And why more vocabulary lists or grammar rules aren't the answer

How do you feel about your English at the moment? Do you feel happy with your level, like you are improving, or do you feel stuck?
Many people tell me they feel stuck, and usually it's not because they haven't studied enough. It's often the opposite. They've learnt the rules, taken the notes, saved the posts, maybe even finished a course… but when it's time to speak or write, everything suddenly feels harder than it should.
This is where I start seeing students avoid things... They avoid using new words or grammar, speaking up in meetings, or writing emails without checking them with a translator first. Now some people might say they are just being lazy... but I don't agree! I believe it happens because you care too much. You stop yourself because you're worried about making mistakes, sounding unnatural, or needing more time to think. This hesitation is very normal!
When you feel this way, your English stays in safe places. It stays in notebooks, apps, lesson slides, and screenshots. We collect grammar rules, useful phrases, and vocabulary lists. And when progress feels slow, it's easy to think the answer is learning more: one more rule, one more explanation, one more new word.
The problem is this: you will never feel confident about your English when it stays on the page. You will feel confident when you use it in real moments, like in messages you send, short conversations, or simple sentences that aren't perfect. Real life doesn't ask for perfect English. It just asks you to use what you already have to communicate your ideas and thoughts.
If you want to feel more comfortable with your English, it has to leave your notes. My challenge this week for you is to use something new, even if you don't feel ready. You can do it!
What's something you've learnt in English but haven't actually used yet?
