Usamos “big” e “large” com substantivos concretos - objetos que podemos ver ou tocar.
Em um estilo informal, “big” é mais comum do que “large”.

Usamos “great” com substantivos abstratos - coisas que não podemos ver ou tocar.

Em um estilo informal, “big” também é usado com substantivos abstratos contáveis.
“Large” não é usado com substantivos abstratos.
• I think it was a big mistake. (I think it was a large mistake. - NÃO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Nenhuma destas três palavras são usadas com substantivos incontáveis.
• I have got a lot of luggage. (I have got big/large/great luggage. - NÃO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
