Vamos usar still para dizer que a situação ou ação é contínua. Não há mudança. Still geralmente é colocado no meio da sentença junto ao verbo. Veja:
• It’s 11:00 and Maria is still in bed.
• “Have you given up smoking?” “No, I still smoke.”
• When I went to bed, Ann was still working.
• Do you still want to go to the party, or have you changed your mind?
Yet é usado quando perguntamos se alguma coisa já aconteceu ou quando temos que dizer que algo não aconteceu ainda. Então colocamos yet principalmente em frases interrogativas e negativas. Detalhe: yet tende a ficar no final da sentença:
• I’m hungry. Is dinner ready yet?
• Have you finished writing that letter yet?
• It’s 10:00 and Tom hasn’t gotten up yet. (or . .. isn’t up yet.)
• We don’t know where we’re going on our vacation yet.
Também usamos yet com o present perfect, como em “Have you finished writing that letter yet?
Ok? Beleza! Veja a diferença entre still and yet nas frases abaixo:
• Jack lost his job a year ago and he is still unemployed.
Jack lost his job a year ago and hasn’t found another job yet.
• Is it still raining?
Has it stopped raining yet?
Você também pode usar still em sentenças negativas. Confira:
• He said he would be here an hour ago, and he still hasn’t come.
É como dizer “he hasn’t come yet. ” Mas com still, perde-se a a ideia expectativa ou pressa.
Compare:
• She hasn’t written to me yet. (but I expect she will write soon)
• She still hasn’t written to me. (she should have written before now)
