Você já foi num país africano francófono ? Que legal chegar no aeroporto e falar com o taxista em francês ! Que legal caminhar na rua e ouvir pessoas falar duas línguas no mesmo tempo, como na Tunisa, no Marrocos ou na Argélia, onde eles usam o árabe e o francês, segundo a língua que faz mais sentido para exprimir a idéia.

«[...] Dans la majorité des 77 pays membres de l’OIF, 60% de la population est aujourd’hui âgée de moins de 30 ans. En 2050, les francophones seront près de 700 millions dans le monde, et la majorité de ces francophones seront Africains. Aujourd’hui, la République démocratique du Congo est le pays francophone le plus peuplé. Autrement dit, le français n’est pas en train de disparaître. Je peux même dire que, comme l’anglais, l’espagnol, le portugais, et l’arabe, le français est une langue africaine. »

Is French the language of the future?

Besides France and its best-known former colonies, Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria, the language of Molière and Manet is spoken in 28 other states — which happen to be some of world's fastest-growing nations. In Africa, French is the official schooling language of countries with increasingly high fertility rates like Mali in the north, and Guinea, Chad and Democratic Republic of Congo in the sub-Saharan region.

A demographic boom in these African states could bump the world's percentage of French speakers from 3 percent today to 8 percent by 2050.
