PREPOSITIONS II

AT / ON / IN FOR TIME

Dando seguimento ao artigo anterior sobre prepoições, hoje irei falar sobre preposições usadas em inglês para tempo.

Comparemos o correto uso das preposições at / on / in for time:

- I arrived at 6 o'clock.

- She arrives on Friday.

- They arrived in January. / They arrived in 1964.

AT

Usamos a preposição at para horário ou tempo em especíifico, assim como feriados públicos ou com a palavra fim-de-semana (weekend).

- I go to the gym at lunchtime.

- Maria was born at 5.00.

- We're going away at Easter.

- Let's go to the beach at the weekend.

ON

Usamos a preposição on quando nos  referimos aos dias da semana ou a uma parte do dia em específico e ainda com datas:

- I spoke to Maria on Monday

- I will see you on Sunday afternoon.

- My parents arrived on Christmas Day.

- I am travelling on my birthday.

iN

Usamos a preposição in para periodos longos como meses, anos, estações:

- Maria was born in 1964.

- It is very hot in Salvador in (the) Winter.

- I go on holidays in March.

- in the 17th century / in the past / in (the) futur / in the MIddle Ages. 

Também usamos in quando nós referimos à duração de algo que estamos ou estivemos fazendo.

- He learnt French in six months.

 REGRAS

Quando do uso das palavras this,that, next, every, one e what precedento estas de expressões de tempo não recorremos ao uso de nenhuma proposição:

- I'll try to meet you next Friday.

- I don't know what time it starts.

- There's a match this Saturday.

- I'll never forget that afternoon.

- He'll be sorry for this one day.

- She goes to an Enat nightglish class every Tuesday evening.

- When will you get married? This year, next year, some time, never.

- What day are you meeting Maria?

Nós usamos at com essas expressões:

AT NIGHT

- I rarely go out at night.

AT THE WEELEND / AT THE WEEKENDS

- Will you be here at the weekend.

AT CHRISTMAS

- Does your father give you a present at Christmas.

AT THE MOMENT / AT PRESENT

- My boss is busy at the moment / at present.

AT THE SAME TIME

- Maria and John arrived at the same time
