Easter is now a Christian festival but the word

'Easter' comes from 'Eostre',the pagan goddess

of spring.

Easter Day is the Sunday after the first full moon

after the first day of spring (21March).It is differ-

-ent every year, but always between 22 March and

25 April. This year in Brazil,Easter will be celebrate

on March 27. Are you looking forward to it ? Have

you bought any chocolate eggs yet ?

Well, many animals and birds are born in

the spring. Thus, when people started to

send Easter cards in the 19th century,the

cards often had baby sheep, rabbits or birds

on them. Nowadays Easter cards do not look

the same ,but they still have bunnies, flowers

and eggs printed on them. By the way,do you

go on sending Easter cards ? Have you ever re-

-ceived an Easter card which you really loved ?

Take a look at these cards below.Which one do

you like best ? Which one would you send to your

sweetheart ?

The tradition of giving chocolate eggs on

Easter Sunday started in Europe in the ear-

-ly 19th century,then in the 1870s British

people also exchanged chocolate eggs on

Easter Sundays.Later on several other coun-

-tries kept this tradition and up to now choco-

-late eggs  are really expected to be present on

Easter Sunday.

Many people go to church on Easter Day.There

are lots of flowers in the churches and Christi -

-ans sing special Easter songs and pray to thank

for Jesus Chirst rebirth.

Last but not least, rabbits and bunnies are very

popular among kids,aren't they ?

How about hares ? They are very similar to

rabbits but they have some different traits

that you can learn about them if you click
