Weather, Whether or If ?

Confusable words ?
Yes,whether and if are conjunctions
which make us think twice or even
three times before using them
correctly in several situations.
However , there is a simple idea to keep
in mind which is this basic difference
between them:
Whether is used in sentences which
provide two or more alternatives to be
chosen.
For example:
They couldn´t decide whether to drive
north or south in that city.
They were uncertain whether to go out
or stay at home on Friday.
Whether we succeed or fail,we must try.
IF can only be used when there is no
alternative.
Examples:
That woman doesn´t know if anything
bad will happen in her trip to London .
Those young men only go out if their
parents think their program is safe.
The tourists would find the right way to go
downtown if they had a good map with them.
Last but not least ,let´s point out
the differences in spelling and meaning
for the noun : weather.
It sounds like whether, conjunc-
tion but it means: a condition of the
atmosphere with respect to heat or
cold,wetness or dryness,
calm or storm,clearness or cloudiness.
Examples :
What is the weather like today ?
It´s warm and cloudy.
What kind of weather do you prefer ?
I love sunny hot days ! And you ?
Well, before saying goodbye, let´s listen to
the song : Stormy Weather in which we may
find other words related to the atmosphere.
Can you find them in the lyrics ?
