April 1st is a day on which,in some countries,people try

to play tricks (pranks,hoaxes) on others.If one succeeds

in tricking somebody,one laughs and says:"April Fool"!

Then the person who has been tricked usually laughs too.

The origins of April Fools' Days are uncertain and myste-

-rious.The most popular theory is that France changed its

calendar in 1500s so that the New Year would begin in Ja-

-nuary to match the Roman Calendar instead of beginning

at the start of spring,in late March or early April.

However,this word of change,traveled slowly,and many

people who lived in the rural areas continued to celebra-

-te the New Year in the spring. Then these countryside

people became known as  "April Fools".
