Can adults appreciate Fairy Tales ?

Hans Christian Anderson (1805-75) is famed as one of the world's greatest writers of fairy tales.He was born in Odense,Denmark,in 1805.While still in his early teens he left home and set out to find fame and fortune in Copengahen,possibly in a career on the stage.In 1822 he was taken up by one of the theatre's directors,who secured the ambitious but poorly educated H.C.Anderson a grant to attend the Grammar school at Spagelse and later the University of Copenhagen.From 1831 onwards he travelled widely in Europe,and remained a passionate traveller all his life,making his first visit to England in 1847.

 Andersen got recognition both in Denmark and abroad with the publication of his first novel ,Improvisatoren,in 1835 ( a first English translation appeared in 1846)and  was soon known wherever he went.Thereafter he continued to write in many genres (including novels,plays and poems)until his death in 1875,but it was his fairy tales that brought him world-wide fame. His works have been translated into more languages than any other writer(second only to the Bible ).
