Tug-of-war

Inglês English

People have played tug-of-war for many centuries.Usually the two teams are given names. The Ancient Greeks called their teams Sun and Moon.In the nineteenth century, the English called the teams French and English. At this time France and England were fighting each other.Other names for the teams are Sailors and Soldiers,Rats and Rabbits,Cops and Robbers.

Nowadays in the U.S.A,american teams would probably  choose for their teams names such as : Republicans and Democrats, Walls and Bridges or slimply Ladies and Gentlemen.

Which names do you believe Brazilians would choose for their teams,if they decided to play tug-of-war at their playgrounds, beaches or parks nowadays?

Do you know the rules for this game ? There are often eight people in each team. The heaviest person stands at the end of the rope because he makes the best anchor. When the team pulls ,all the players in the team shout out, "Heave !" which means, "Pull hard !".Each team must pull the other team across a line which is drawn on the ground.

Tug of War reminds me of my childhood . I used to play that game at school .
It is a game that shows you that to be strong you must be together with other people.
I don't remember that song from Sir Paul McCartney but it sounded nice.
