HEAD is used in a number of idioms that relate

to emotions and staying calm and in control.Let´s

take a look at a few of these idioms( expressions

which have a meaning that is not obvious from

the individual words)

.Keep your head( keep calm,especially

in a dangerous or difficult situation)

 

 Examples:

 

.If you keep your head when all around

are losing theirs,you may turn out to be

a hero!

 

.It is not easy to keep your head when you

are lost in a dark road,is it ?

 

.Teenagers cannot keep their heads if their

teachers take their mobile phones away,can they ?

 

               

 

Lose your head (panic or lose control).

 

Examples :

 

.The players lost their heads at the end of

the match so they got red cards !

 

.Try not to lose your head at a traffic jam. Be

as patient as possible,ok ?

 

. Anna has lost her head when she saw

a mouse under her bed !

Sometimes HEAD is used in idioms to

mean the place where ideas or

thoughts are produced.

Examples:

put ideas into someone´s head.

Examples:

 

.Peter used to consider his boss a

gentleman until Laura started

putting ideas into his head.

 

Lucy couldn´t agree with her father

at all,although he insisted putting his

ideas into her head!
